Amica Insurance donates $41,000 to Boston Children’s Hospital

BOSTON, April 5, 2014 – As part of the Amica Game Ball program, Amica Insurance donated $41,000 to Boston Children’s Hospital in a check presentation during the Boston Celtics game on Friday night.

Comcast SportsNet personality Kyle Draper hosted the event, as Robert A. DiMuccio, president, chairman and CEO of Amica Insurance, presented the check to Dick Argys, senior vice president and CAO of Boston Children’s Hospital. The donation brings Amica’s total gift to $218,000 during the last six years.

“Our goal is to help Boston Children’s Hospital provide the best possible care for kids, and the Amica Game Ball program has allowed us to do that for the last six years,” DiMuccio said. “We look forward to hearing more success stories about these brave children and their families.”

“Boston Children’s Hospital is extremely grateful for the dedicated support that Amica Insurance has extended to our patients and their families during the last six years,” said Carola Cadley, vice president of corporate development and special events at Boston Children’s Hospital Trust. “Amica’s continued generosity speaks to the commitment of their employees, as well as their outstanding commitment to serving children in their community.”

The Amica Game Ball program invites one patient from Boston Children’s Hospital to attend a Boston Celtics game each season. In February, eight-year-old Drystan McClain of Portsmouth, R.I., was Amica’s honored guest. McClain met Celtics legend Tommy Heinsohn, watched courtside as players from both teams warmed up and enjoyed the game from floor seats at TD Garden.

McClain has a cyst on his brain that has been causing seizures since he was three years old. He is a patient in the neurology/epilepsy department at Boston Children’s Hospital, and even though he takes 19 pills a day to manage his seizures, he doesn’t let his condition slow him down. McClain, who loves sports, has won two straight state wrestling championships in his youth program. He even fundraises for Boston Children’s Hospital, asking for donations in lieu of birthday gifts to help as many kids as he can.
