We’re financially strong, with $3.2 billion in invested assets under management and $2.5 billion in policy reserves. We insure nearly 1 million policyholders and 25,000 employer groups who represent a broad spectrum of industries, in companies of all types and sizes. You can be confident in our ability to meet our policyholder obligations.

In all, Washington National has paid out nearly $3 billion to our supplemental health policyholders—which includes more than $1.2 billion in claims to help protect customers from the costs of illnesses, injuries and accidents. Plus, we’ve paid out nearly $2 billion through our return-of-premium and cash–value benefits.

Company History

Washington National was incorporated in 1911 in Illinois and began providing accident and health insurance to teachers. Washington National was acquired by CNO Financial Group in 1997.
